There 59 (11.8%) who found have positive challenge (GCT) while remaining 441 (88.2%) had plasma below mg/dl. Furthermore, OGTT results showed that 43 (8.6%) Women GDM significantly higher (p<0.0001), (p=0.0064) multigravidity (0.0191) Practical Implications: Oral can be administered in all particularly high risk individuals. Validity of Fasting Blood Glucose Test in Screening for the Pre-Diabetes State Among Pregnant Females

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is defined as carbohydrate intolerance of varying degrees of severity with onset or first recognition during pregnancy (Metzer & Coustan, 1998). Glucose tolerance deteriorates in human pregnancy, but about 97% to 98% of all pregnant women retain a normal glucose tolerance and only 2% to 3% develops GDM (Kuhl, 1991). [Self-monitoring of blood glucose].

As the point of care testing(POCT), devices for self-monitoring blood glucose(SMBG) are most common. The problems in SMBG can be found in the popularity of SMBG itself. The reasons for the problems are three. First is the innovation of technology. As each maker has developed devices based on their own intention, device to device difference is too large, so that the standardization is needed. Th...

Problems in home monitoring of blood glucose.

Two hundred and forty blood glucose readings were made on 5 Glucochek machines by 2 different operators. The results on all machines correlated poorly with equivalent results from an automatic glucose analyser with major discrepancies at all glucose concentrations. There was a wide gap in performance between the 2 operators. Analysis of variance suggested that errors were not only due to inter-...

Diabetes Management Blood Glucose Monitoring

Fewer than 30 % of patients with diabetes who are on insulin therapy achieve target glycated haemoglobin (HbA1C) levels. Automated bolus calculators (ABCs) are now almost universally used for patients on insulin pump therapy to calculate pre-meal insulin doses. Use of ABCs in glucose monitors and smart phone applications have the potential to improve glucose control in a larger population of in...

Bedside blood glucose monitoring in hospitals.

The modern management of hospitalized patients with diabetes includes capillary blood glucose determinations at the bedside. This measure is analogous to an additional “vital sign” for people with diabetes. The rapidity with which results can be obtained, and therapeutic decisions made, can improve management and conceivably shorten hospital stays. Replacing venipunctures with capillary blood g...
